Images of Old Hawaiʻi
People, Places and Events in Hawaiʻi’s history come alive through text and media (photos, maps, art, etc) in the internet publication Images of Old Hawaiʻi. It is intended as an educational program covering Hawaiʻi’s past.
The posts are informal historic summaries; images (both historic as well as modern) are added to help tell the stories. In some cases, historic maps are laid over modern aerial imagery.
These daily historical summaries, typically 750- to 1,000-words in length, help tell the stories of Hawaiʻi’s past. It is intended as an educational opportunity.
Each day, the reader is introduced to a new subject, timeframe, location, etc, different from the previous days’ posts, keeping the subject matter diverse (and somewhat of a mystery, as readers are not sure of the Who, What, When and Where subject matter) while maintaining the common theme focusing on Hawaiʻi.
Some have asked when a book will be out; they are reminded that the posts are a “new form of books,” using technology to efficiently and effectively publish and distribute its contents.
This program is designed to help readers better understand Hawaiʻi’s past; with that understanding people will hopefully care about, and ultimately care for, Hawaiʻi’s special places.
